Nate Berkus, the principal of Nate Berkus Associates, has established himself as one of the preeminent decorators in Chicago. Self-taught, his inherent understanding of space, architecture, furniture, design and style translates to every project Nate designs. Nate's passion for design is fueled by his need to be surrounded by objects and interiors that inspire and please the senses.
Starting his career with a variety of internships proved invaluable to Nate and pointed him in the direction his career would take. Experience that he gained from Dominique Aurientis in Paris, France to Leslie Hindman Auctioneers (now Sotheby's in Chicago, Illinois) is what began to shape his design eye. At Dominique Aurientis, Nate was the only bi-lingual person in the office and designed a line of furniture and accessories for the American market before returning to Chicago to establish himself in the city he now calls home. He then interned at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers to study the history of furniture and decorative arts. Upon graduating from Lake Forest College in Illinois Nate was asked to take on a full time position at the auction house. Eventually Nate was responsible for running a series of monthly auctions of newer furniture.
