Sandra Cisnernos was born into a Mexican family in 1954. The Cisnernos resided between Chicago and Mexico for most of Sandra's childhood years. Sandra Cisnernos's desire to write became apparent at Loyola University, where she was a creative writing student. She published numerous collections of poetry, novels (The House on Mango Street (1983), and Woman Hollering Creek (1991)). Her most recent novel, Carmelo, appeared in 2002.
Sandra Cisnernos was the only daughter of her parents seven children. This allowed her imagination to grow, also, for her to think, and she soon became a writer. Sandra's father lived vicariously though his beliefs of young women. He believed that college was good for Sandra to find a husband. He had to get use to the idea that her passion was to become an ostentatious writer...
