Q. Trace the images a vision in blindness through out the
play. How are they related to the theme? Why does Oedipus
blind himself instead of joining Jocasta in suicide?
Sophocles "Oedipus the King" tells the story that is
widely recognized as the greatest of the surviving greek
tragedies. The story of the legendary king, king Oedipus
perhaps one of the greatest greek kings that ruled greece
in his era, "his intelegence, confidence, rashness, and
suffering - represents powers and limitations that are
both exilirating and chastening." (292).
After the tragic death of the former king, king
Laius, the father of Oedipus by his own hands, and after
Oedipus has solved the riddle of the sphinx and became
king, and the prophecy has come true... towards the end
of the story king Oedipus blinds himself...
