Ancient India had two major empires known as the Mauryan Empire and the Gupta Empire. They Mauryan Empire was established by a young fortune-hunter named Chandragupta Maurya. This empire lasted about 150 years in India. He united northern India from the Gages River to the region west of the Indus. Later on conquered and added northwestern India up to the Hindu Kush. The Mauryan Empire controlled the mines and the centers of weaving, spinning and also used a system of weights and measurements. About 270 B.C Asoka, Chandragupta Mauryan's grandson, took the throne.
