Seniorpreneurism is a term used to describe the increasing number of seniors in Canada between the ages of 55 and over starting small businesses. Many of these seniorpreneurist began their businesses because of one of four common factors. These factors include layoffs from work, boredom, cash strapped or early retirement. Many seniorpreneurist began their small businesses when they were laid off from work, such as company restructuring. Many realized with their age and expectations that they will not be able to find a similar position and or salary. Others built a business out of boredom to pass the time and as a hobby. Early retirement for some is desirable but for others it may have been forced upon them. For example, there are industries that have strict standards that fears aging employees may compensate levels of safety in a hazardous environment such as reaction timing. Lastly, there are those seniorpreneurist who are cash-strapped in desperate need of quick money for multiple purposes.
