Perrier Water
Perrier was considered the purist water available, so much that North Carolina used Perrier as a standard for testing their own water supplies. Then on February 10, 1990, impurities are discovered in Perrier by the North Carolina county officials. The impurities found were minute amounts of benzene in a number of sample bottles. Quickly the Food and Drug Administration were called in to concur with the counties findings (James, 1990, pg 1).
Ronald Davis, the president of Perrier Group of America issued a statement that a news conference will be held tomorrow morning. Now more then ever is the time for the public relations department to spring into action and initiate their strategic plan and prevent panic among the masses. A number of topics must be addressed. These areas to be addressed are to prove that Perrier is a company of integrity and honesty and will do what ever is takes to maintain that level, the importance for communication between both the internal and external publics, tactics to support the strategy, benefits and risks, and ethical issues that will arise.
