Baseball and football are two of the most prolific sports
in the world today. "Baseball and
football are the two most popular spectator sports in this country" (Carlin1). A glimpse of the
two sports reveals two methods of play and a different scoring system. The sports and athletes of
today are among the leading influences in the lives of young people. "Sometimes, we see players
in the NBA or NFL as role models," noted Gallagher (3). Many sports may seem to have similar
characteristics, but all have an abundance of differences.
The sports are played on two different types of fields. Football is played on a rectangular
shaped field with the scoring zones on opposite sides of the field for each team, and baseball is
played on a diamond shaped field with baselines leading to home plate, where the point is scored.
In football, points can be scored a few different ways, but in baseball, points are accumulated
only one way. In football, the defense is trying to stop an opposing player from carrying the ball
into their end zone, but in baseball, the defense handles the ball trying to keep the opposing
players off the baselines...
