Peter Max
One of the most influential and inspirational artists of the century is Peter Max. His work has been celebrated and admired for more than forty years. Peter Max could most easily be recognized as the illustrator of the sixties. However, his work has impacted society for the past four decades, and has continued even until to day.
Peter Max was born in Berlin to Jakob and Stella Max, in the year of 1937. When young Max was a year old, his family moved to Shanghai, China. In Shanghai, the family lived across the street from a Buddhist temple, and next to that was a Sikh temple. From his home he was able to witness hu zhi yi rin (origami) masters create figures that could glide on the wind. Festivals of dragon puppets, fireworks, streamers, and banners would make their way down the child's street. These scenes would have a dramatic impact on the developing artistic skills of Max...
