Visiting the Marines My knees were trembling. Sweat was rolling down my face. I was speechless. It was the day of Clinton and Dustin’s basic training graduation from the Marine Corp. Clinton and Dustin are two of my good friends. They both decided to join the Marines as soon as they finished high school. Both of them went into infantry. That means they are the first people to go into buildings and clear everything out. After seeing their graduation, I realized the military should be honored for many reasons. This was my first time ever seeing people graduate from basic training. I didn’t think too much about it because I never really cared about the military. It was a bright and windy day; it was perfect outside. I had just arrived at the Marine Corp base located in San Diego, California. The view was amazing; palm trees were everywhere. The buildings were peach, and they circled around us. There wasn’t a spec of dirt on the ground. You couldn’t even walk on the grass without getting yelled at by security. Everywhere we looked, you saw people in uniform cleaning. They even swept the pavement, even though it was outside. Clinton told me they do that every day. Recruits had to do this as punishment for something they did wrong. I came here with my best friends Ang and Jenny. Ang had been dating Dustin for three years, and Jenny was a good friend of both Dustin and Clinton. We walked around the shops while we waited for the ceremony to begin. We couldn’t wait to see them. It had been a long three months without them. Ang, Jenny, and I were used to hanging out with them almost every day when they were home. It was hard to say goodbye when they had to leave for basic training. “The introduction is beginning,” Ang eagerly announced. We headed to the Courtyard Museum. This was where the introduction took place. The drill sergeant welcomed everyone and continued to talk about the plans for the rest of the day.
