W.T. Purkiser writes the sequel to Timothy Smith's Volume 1 Called Unto Holiness: The Story of the Nazarenes- the Formative Years. I must say that although Purkiser says that the second 25 years that he wrote about lacked the some of the drama of the early days, he did a much better job at presenting it in my opinion than Smith did. Maybe it was his years as editor of the Herald of Holiness or maybe he is just better at presenting history in an interesting manner. Even if the period did not have the drama of the early days, it was a time of explosive growth for the church.
The record of the Church of the Nazarene during its second 25 years of the denominational history holds many high points. The church began its second quarter-century with 111,905 members in 2,030 domestic congregations and 7,568 adherents with 301,675 members in 4,587 congregations and 46,493 members in foreign mission fields in 793 churches.
