A network of computers is two or more computers and or their associated peripherals joined together locally or globally to work together as a community. When a small group of computers are networked, it can be called a Local Area Network, (LAN.) And when it's big enough to cross local boundaries, they are termed a Wide Area Network, (WAN.) In deciding to group computers together to form a network, many factors should and must be considered. All such factors can then be called a logical design of the network.
As you read this essay, I will try to explain the difference of designing a network logically and physically. I will explain the thought process of designing and transforming the logical network design into a physical networked community of computers.
The logical design of a network may encompass the present, and the future of the network. The physical present network may be based on legacy hardware and software and logically designed in such a way that the direction in which the information flows does not serve the purpose of meeting the demand of the modern fast paced information flow.
