As in all films mise-en-scene, cinematography, sound and editing plays a crucial role in the movie Quilombo. The movie is a story of Brazilian slaves that have escaped from their owners and now live in the Palmares Mountains. Now the people of Palmares must make a crucial decision to stay in Palmares Mountains and fight the Spaniards or to go to Cascu to live on a type of reservation. The great leader Zumba wishes to accept a compromise from the king and go to Cascu, however the majority of the tribes wish to stay with Zumbi in Palmares where they would have to fight the Spaniards. Discussed in this paper are the importances of the mise-en-scene, cinematography, sound, and editing brings to the scene of the final vote on to leave or to stay in Palmares and to the movies entirety.
Through out the scene the lighting is relatively consistently the same. The scene takes place in a crowded village after nightfall. For the most part the lighting is given off by lights that are created to look like light from a fire and also from torches held by actors in an attempt to give the village the most natural look. The appearance of shadows is rather frequent also to give a natural appeal. Even thought the light is made to look ordinary there is special lighting given to the speakers to show the importance of them speaking...
