Jane Eyre
This novel Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte is set during the Victorian period, at a time where a women's role in culture was limited and class differences distinct. It is apparent the social injustices of the period, for example the poverty, lack of universal education and sexist inequalities. Religion, people, and violence are other key issues in Jane's life.
The two beneficial people playing an important role in shaping Jane's life are Miss Temple and Helen. Helen says about Miss Temple that she is "above the rest, because she knows far more than they do." Mrs. Temple is a commanding and kind woman who plays the mother position in Jane's life. An example of her kindness is when after noticing that the ruined porridge was not eaten by anyone, she ordered a lunch of bread and cheese to be handed out to all, understanding their hunger. This occurrence is also evidence of her bravery, of how she is not afraid to stand up for her beliefs, when she feels that too much unnecessary suffering has been imposed on the children.
