Interview with Lisa McGarry
Upon walking into Meadow Ridge School in Orland Park, Illinois, I immediately realized I was entering a truly amazing place. The walls were covered with art work from the students, which were in grades third to fifth. The principle Mrs. Carroll was extremely friendly and very excited to meet the niece of "a truly amazing teacher."
My aunt Lisa McGarry has been teaching a Meadow Ridge for the past ten years in a fifth grade classroom. "I love teaching fifth grade because for the most part they are so eager to learn at this age. They are young enough to still g et excited about school and learning, yet old enough to work independently and understand and implement higher level thinking skills" (McGarry). Her classroom is made up of mostly white children who come from decent homes. The parents seem to be involved in their child's learning experience and do not find it to be a big deal to call Mrs. McGarry to ask for updates about their grades or behavior...
