Role Models
The Canadian Role Model that I chose is the professional basketball player, Steve Nash. Steve Nash went to college at Santa Clara and was labelled as the best three point shooter in school history averaging a breath taking .861, including .894 as a senior. Canadian born Steve Nash was the first round draft pick of the Phoenix Suns (15th pick overall) of the 1996 NBA draft. He barely got any action on the court as a rookie but played well in his second pro season. Jason Kid was established as their point guard for years to come, the Phoenix Suns traded Nash to Dallas on June 25, 1998 and he stepped in as the Mavericks starting point guard, leading the team in assists in 1998 to 1999. Some of Nash's career highlights are as followed: 17 assists in one game versus Utah, averaged a career high free throw percentage of .909 during the 2002-03 season, named Canada's Top Male Athlete, has appeared in 8 career NBA Playoff games, and was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year in 1995 and 1996.
