In Euripides' play Medea, Medea is the victim, and her situation is made worse because she is a woman and a foreigner. In ancient times, woman were not treated fairly. Some argue that women are still not treated fairly today, but things have come a long way. The comparison between treatment is not even close. Medea also faces the disadvantage of being a foreigner.
As a woman in ancient times, Medea has no control over anything. She can do nothing when Jason leaves her because women were nothing more than property. If she fought back in any way the punishment probably would have been death. Not only was she a woman, but she was a smart and clever woman, which was not a good thing in ancient times. Women were not supposed to be smart and clever and women who were smart and clever were considered dangerous...
