In "The Chocolate War," Robert Cormier shows the struggles many teenage boys go through everyday. Within Trinity, hundreds of boys are constantly competing, trying to prove themselves to be the best. It seems as if everyone has a certain name placed on them, their reputation. "Emile Janza was tired of being treated like one of the bad guys... 'hey animal,' Archie would say"(page 173). Noone can control how other people think of them. One rumor can completely ruin a person; "That you're a fairy. A queer"(page 153). Everyone is fighting a battle that is already lost, trying to break free from labels and stereotypes...
