In the early 1960's, Sam Walton opened his first Wal-Mart. Mr. Walton chose to open his Wal-Mart in the small town of Rogers, Arkansas. He had an insightful concept that "small towns could support big stores" (Belsie). While building his business from scratch in a rural community, he was allowed time to experiment and "build his empire." (Belsie) without being recognized. This is when Mr. Walton first began selling goods at a better price, thus giving Wal-Mart the slogan of "Always Low Prices. Always."
