By the end of part one, Scout has been firmly established by Harper Lee as the narrator of the story " To Kill A Mocking Bird".Her role in the novel is to tell the story and to understand life in Maycomb County. She is a short six year old daughter of Atticus Finch.
Scout is very sensitive but is not afraid of anyone. Scout interaction at school on her first day proves that she is tough because she has her first fight. Another time she shows her masculine side is when she gets into and argument with Francis. He was referring to Atticus as a 'Nigger lover' and he would not stop by this time Scout was starting to get wound up 'This time I split my knuckle to the bone on his front teeth. My left impaired, I sailed in with my right..' This shows how much Scout can be like a boy. Although she is tough, it does not take a lot to wind her up anything said offensively involving family or herself she will resort to violence..
