The Effects of Our Nation's Role Models
Professional athletes in America have a great impact on our nation's youth. Nowadays,
star athletes have the burden of knowing that they are role models for the youth of America. The
youth of America sees these athletes as nothing less than modern day heroes. So, it should not
come as a surprise that children want to emulate their favorite athletes. They want to do what
their favorite athletes do, act like their favorite athletes act, and even try to look the same. But
not all athletes are good role models for America's youth. Many professional athletes chew
tobacco, abuse alcohol, and break the law, and where does the admiring youth of our nation get
to learn about such actions? The answer is in many places, on TV, in the newspaper, on the
Internet, on the radio, basically through any source of media. This effects America's youth
negatively, it influences them to imitate the unhealthy, and unethical actions of their role models.
Because athletes are role models for America's youth and because much of their careers are
televised, the effects can lead to bad habits, unwise decisions, and poor character, for America's
youth...
