Response Knocking on Heaven's Door
Anne Lamott, has a wonderful story here and its similar to one of those stories that I would expect to see in an e-mail, one of those 'touch your heart' pieces I loved it. However, if we were meant to learn a lesson, as we have done with the other stories, then I'm not getting the message. I am honestly confused.
On the other hand I found it interesting that such a woman who claims herself to be a bad Christian, is still afraid of lying on an airplane. Is it plain superstition or does she fear that since lying is a sin, she will be punished by God's wrath? I mean why does she worry about "God's Children" , and want to care for them, if she cannot trust him for one to keep her safe on a plane, and two , she cannot stand people talking to her on a plane. Ms. Lamott, spoke of the church woman, Ranola, with a tone as to suggest that Ranola's fear and behavior were uncalled for and "visceral". So in what manner does she have the right to criticize the man sitting next to her, and what he is reading on the sole basis that she had a different opinion? In a way I believe that she is hypocritical...
