Finance – The business function that is responsible for the acquisition and disbursement of funds. Cash Flow Forecast – A projection of the expected cash inflows and outflows. Long Term Forecast – A prediction of revenues, costs, and expenses for more than one year, sometimes as far as 5 or 10 years into the future. Short Term Forecast – A prediction of revenues, costs, and expenses usually for one year. Capital Budget – Highlights the firm’s spending plans for the acquisition of capital assets. It primarily concerns itself with the purchase of such capital or fixed assets as land, buildings, and equipment that involve large sums of money. Cash Budget – Based on the cash flow forecast and projects that use cash over a given period. Cash budgets are important guidelines that assist managers in anticipating borrowing, depot repayment, operating expenditures, and short-term investment expectations. Operating Budget – Is the plan of the various costs and expenses needed to operate the business, based on the short-term forecast.
