Despite the best efforts of humanity, war will continue to be a condition of life in the 21st Century, and the odds are likely that at some point, we will find ourselves once
again engaged in a war to maintain our lifestyle.
War is essentially about power and the exercise of that power. Since 1945, the nature of war has essentially been of a regional nature, not a global conflict seen in the two world wars. However, in small subtle ways, the nature of war has changed. The
rapid production of nuclear arms may have provided some nations with a trump card to use against overwhelmingly hostile neighbors such as Israel, or evened the playing field

nuclear line and used those weapons. The new defining features of war are technical
superiority, insurgency and ideology. It is sadly ironic the United States of America uses conflicts such as the Persian Gulf War, the conflict in Bosnia and the Iraq War as a proving ground for years of weapons research. The challenge to military superpowers are to overwhelm the opposition without trying to inflict massive civilian casualties and the new generation of weapons are becoming more efficient in doing so. The only way to counter these weapons is for an opponent to indulge in insurgency tactics.
These may range from hit and run actions in land which makes the advantages of
