A disease is an illness that can affect someone mentally or physically. All diseases impair ones health or ability to function. Diseases can have specific signs or symptoms whether they are recognizable or not. They can affect a specific part of the body or the entire body as a whole. A disease can have a variety of causes
such as a genetic defect, environmental stress factors, or an infection. Diseases affect each person differently depending on the person. Certain diseases can affect someone's behavior because the disease weakens his or her body.
Alcoholism is a disease that causes a chemical and physical dependence to alcohol; alcoholism can be blamed on multiple proven factors such as genetics and psychological or social factors. One psychological factor that causes alcoholism is a chemical imbalance in the brain that allows for an uncontrollable addiction and changes how one acts, ability to function in a normal society, and ones involvement in relationships. The chemical imbalance becomes apparent when one begins to drink excessively and can no longer maintain control of their disease...
