I know I have curves and I love them. I thank God for giving me such a beautiful figure, as thick as I may be. It's all about loving yourself for who you are not what society wants to make of you. The response given from a woman named Gaby after watching Real Women Have Curves. Who wouldn't after realizing the amazing job America Ferrera did when she portrayed Ana Lourdes Magdalena Garcia, a typical teenager trying to overcome the stereotypes allotted to her by her culture, gender, and clothing size? Ana is a great example of a person who is trying to define the relationships she has with the people around her, and they way the treat her because of superficial circumstances. The main one being her mother.
In the Hispanic culture, women are raised to be good wives, work hard and know how look good for their husbands. Being first generation Mexican-American, Ana had to face problems her culture placed before her. Her mother, Carmen Garcia (Lupe Ontiveros), is the main reason that Ana does not want to pursue her education, her dreams, hopes or aspirations...
