WHY DEMOCRACY FOR IRAQ?
Until April 2003, the people of Iraq had suffered through twenty-four years of Saddam Hussein's evil reign as leader of their country. Led by Saddam Hussein's influence, his regime imposed a way of life and ruling on the Iraqi people that involved scare tactics, genocide, uneven distribution of wealth, and forceful possession of items. Fortunately, on March 19, 2003, a coalition of nations led by the United States one of the most powerful nations in the world invaded Iraq in an effort to liberate the people from this horrific dictator (CIA-The World Factbook, sec. 1). One month later, Saddam Hussein's regime had been crumbled and the people were liberated. After decades of torment ruled their nation, the people are entitled to enjoy their liberation and live their lives free of fear. They should be able to decide who leads their country and what decisions should be made. That is why I believe the best new government to be implemented in a post-Saddam Iraq would be a democratic state.
