Racism in American Society In School at Work and in the Community

In 1963 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Told us that we had to " face the tragic fact that the Negro is not free", that segregation, discrimination and poverty were keeping African-Americans from being fully contributing members of our society. This still holds true today. Although mainstream America is riding an unprecedented wave of prosperity a gap still exists between blacks and whites, and even between blacks and other minorities. Unfortunately many people in the majority race do not see, or choose to deny, that this problem exists. Hate crimes are on the rise and racism is cropping up in all arenas from professional sports to the criminal justice system. Yet at the same time affirmative action laws are being challenged and struck down across the nation.
I intend to shed some light on the undeniable relevance and immediacy of this problem by statistically examining the relevance of race in America in three key arenas: education, employment, and the community.
