My time spent doing CAS (Creative, Action, Service) activities during my Pre-IB years was in no way a waste. I developed greatly in a personal way from my experiences while doing CAS activities. My first CAS activity was, by far, the most important as far as my own personal development. I ushered at the Kaleidoscope Theater and it really touched me. The feeling I felt when I led the people to their seats was very moving. It was, as well as being my first CAS activity, my first volunteer activity. To help these people gave me a new respect for human kindness. The courteous responses they gave me for helping them really touched me. This feeling only grew as I participated in other activities such as my time with the Toys for Kids organization and the Kid Fest.
I didn't gain a lot of new skills per say, but I did gain a lot of new understanding and respect for many groups of people...
