In this new millennium, nothing has really changed for children. They are directly attacked by toxicans everyday. Many children in there environment have become a negative to their development. Parents nowadays must protect their children from a growing number of distractions, from sexually explicit material, and from life treatening situations.
Today's parents must try, first of all, to control all the new distractions that tempt children away from schoolwork. At home, a child may have a room furnished with a stereo and television. For Instance, there's little doubt that too much TV is bad for children, dragging down their grades and their interest in learning. The evidence is very strong that heavy viewing of TV by children particularly commercial programming is deleterious for development of cognitive skills and aggressiveness. Moreover, children who watched educational TV scored better then kids who watched no TV at all. Furthermore, not many young people can resist the urge to listen to an album or watch MTV especially if it is time to do schoolwork...
