Alan Davie - Samuel Peploe
The two artists I have chosen to contrast and compare in this assignment are Samuel J Peploe and Alan Davie. Samuel J Peploe is a historical artist who lived between 1871 and 1935 and was from Scotland.Alan Davie, a contemprory artist, was born in 1920, is also Scottish and lives and works in Hertford, Cornwall and the West Indies. In this assignment I will discuss both artists still life works and view my opinions on them.I decided to write about these artists because they both have such different styles from one another and I hoped to explore the similarities and differences between the two artists more.
Alan Davies has a bright, abstract style that I would find hard to compare to any artist I have researched before as it is so diverse to traditional painting styles.He has made a wide use of vivid colour throughout his still lifes and heavy black outlines around objects.He makes use of pattern-as seen in 'the studio no. 30' throughout the painting - that brings a detailed and fascinating look to his style.Some of his paintings are squiggly and chaotic and it is near impossible to define the subject matter and could be considered almost childlike...
