European and Indian Cultural Conflicts
Two different people have many different beliefs which cause conflicts between
them. In the book, Black Robe by Brian Moore, the story relates to many historical
connections between the European people and the Indians. There are four main
differences between the people that cause many conflicts in the book and in history. The
four differences are the following: Lifestyle, Religion, Possession, and the relationship
between men and women.
The lifestyle of the Indians is far more nomadic and spiritual in the Black Robe.
When the Indians settle and live in an area that is their land. The land around it does not
belong to them. When the Indians move from that land, they do not own it anymore.
Animals, the Indians believe, have souls and are intelligent, and the trees are alive and
watching them. They consider the Europeans to be stupid because they don't believe in
the same things...
